WRISE National Mission Statement: Women of Renewable Industries and Sustainable Energy (WRISE) promotes the education, professional development, and advancement of women to achieve a strong diversified workforce and support a robust renewable energy economy. WRISE offers grant support to women students, funding their registration and travel expenses for the annual AWEA WINDPOWER conference. We are committed to upholding the WRISE National Mission Statement, while helping to further the professional development of women working in the renewable energy fields in Southern California. Founded in 2005 as Women of Wind Energy (WoWE) and rebranded in May 2017, Women of Renewable Industries and Sustainable Energy (WRISE) is a national nonprofit. Part of GRID and WRISE’s workforce diversity initiatives, the programme is aimed at women training for careers in installation and design as well as college and graduate students studying renewable energy and related fields. Charity Navigator has developed a plan to iterate and expand upon our preliminary DEI ratings and will be rolling it out gradually in order to provide charities ample time to incorporate, report, and potentially improve their equity practices. Our preliminary assessment of the nonprofit's DEI practices was developed with the expertise and advice of dozens of leaders in the nonprofit and philanthropic sectors and is based on the Equity Strategies information collected through Candid's Demographics profile. We see it as key to the success of renewable energy across the country and around the world. The voices of women have had little influence in large-scale strategies due to an imbalance in representation. Our national nonprofit is focused on the education, professional development, and advancement of women. Clearly, neither industry is close to the 50 goal, nor of representing the diversity that exists in the world. IRENA, the International Renewable Energy Agency, found that women make up 32 of the global workforce in renewable energy and 22 in oil and gas. The National Council of Nonprofits has compiled several resources and studies that document how effective DEI practices can help organizations cultivate staff belonging and motivation, improve management and governance practices, and spark innovation that can help nonprofits achieve their missions. There is a growing body of research which shows that effective DEI practices can promote a more positive organizational culture, which can influence the nonprofit's ability to achieve impact on the people and communities they serve.
